The hosts in those communities are the most generous and hospitable people you will ever meet and you are sure to make lots of friends along the way. Note that super advance planning is not required. Usually sending a couch request a day or two prior to arrival is sufficient. And sometimes, even same day requests work! Also WarmShowers hosts tend to provide phone numbers, so it is even easier to connect with them even at the last minute.
